Medical science has seen tremendous advancement since 1950. Many diseases which cannot be cured can be cured nowadays with the advent of latest medical research. The other side of the fact is very disappointing to the medical community as a whole.

All these recent advancements in medical science are available to people in developed countries only. One billion people still lack basic health care system. About 11 million children below 5 years die because of malnutrition and other diseases which can be prevented.  AIDS is a threat to mankind. UNAIDS estimation for 2007 is that about 33 million people are living with HIV, 2.5 new infections of HIV and two million people die because of HIV.

Tuberculosis can be treated and cured nowadays. Still 2 million deaths of TB are reported every year. Infectious disease like malaria, meningitis, pneumonia.
